Herbert Prevails At Challenger Cherbourg La Manche

Pierre-Hugues Herbert has clinched the title of the Challenger Cherbourg La Manche. The top seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 indoor hard-court tournament defeated Jelle Sels from the Netherlands 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.

Herbert advanced to the championship match with wins in the top half of the draw over his compatriots Clement Chidekh and Arthur Bourquier, as well as Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland and No. 6 seed Jurij Rodionov from Austria.

The World No. 180 saved all three break points he faced and broke Sels’ serve two times. Herbert won 59 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and nine minutes.

Herbert claimed his sixth ATP Challenger Tour career title, his first of the season and all of them indoors. The Schiltigheim native pocketed €12,980 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points.

The 32nd edition of the Challenger Cherbourg La Manche offered a total prize pool of €91,250 and was held at the Complexe Jean Jaurès in Cherbourg, a picturesque port city in the Normandy region, known for its rich maritime history and stunning coastal scenery.
