Croatian Karlo Kajin was defeated in the first round of the ITF World Tennis Tour M15 tournament in Rovinj, the second leg of the 53rd edition of the Istarska Rivijera, by the sixth-seeded Hungarian Gergely Madarasz (ATP 713), 7-6(2), 6-3.
Kajin led 4-2 in the first set, but the Hungarian made a comeback and was the better player in the tie-break. In the second set, Kajin broke serve in the first game, but lost that advantage in the next game, and Madarasz secured the win with another break.
Croatia will have one representative in the second round, Nikola Basic, who will play for a spot in the quarterfinals on Thursday against the third-seeded Ukrainian Viacheslav Bielinskyi. Bielinskyi defeated his compatriot Nikita Mashtakov in the first round 6-1, 6-1.
