Luka Mikrut and Josip Simundza will compete for a spot in the semifinals of the Opatija ITF World Tennis Tour M15 tournament, the final event of the 53rd edition of the Istarska Rivijera series, after securing their places in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Top seed Mikrut, a 20-year-old from Split, delivered a dominant performance to reach the quarterfinals, defeating 26-year-old British qualifier Jeremy Gschwendtner 6-2, 6-2. Simundza, also 20, faced a tougher challenge against 30-year-old Hungarian Gergely Madarasz, dropping the first set before rallying to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Seventeen-year-old Emanuel Ivanisevic, fresh off his first professional match win and ATP ranking point on Wednesday, put up a strong fight against 25-year-old Michael Vrbensky. However, the Czech ultimately prevailed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory, ending Ivanisevic’s run in the tournament.
The quarterfinal matches are set for Friday.
