ITF Press Release, April 3, 2025
The 2025 Hopman Cup will take place at Fiera del Levante in Bari (Puglia), Italy on 16-20 July, with teams from Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Canada and reigning champions Croatia set to compete.
Paris 2024 Olympic gold medallist and member of the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup title winning Italy team, Jasmine Paolini, will represent the host nation alongside Flavio Cobolli. Players representing the remaining five teams will be announced by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and event partner Tennium in due course.
The news was announced today at a press conference in Bari, which took place in front of the coveted Hopman Cup trophy and was attended by Michele Emiliano (President of the Puglia Region), Vito Leccese (Mayor of Bari), David Haggerty (ITF President), Kristoff Puelinckx (CEO Tennium), Iva Majoli (Tournament Director) and Isidoro Alvisi (Vice President of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation – FITP).
With a long and prestigious history, the ITF and Tennium have chosen Puglia – specifically Bari – for the tournament’s first-ever edition in Italy. A tennis village spanning over 10,000 square metres will host the event.
The six teams will each consist of one male and one female player, with ties between nations featuring one men’s singles match, one women’s singles match and a mixed doubles match.

Michele Emiliano, President of the Puglia Region, said: “Puglia is the land of courage. I must especially thank David, Kristoff, and Iva because, as happens in sports, they have gone beyond their limits and put their hearts into this. I also want to thank the Italian Tennis Federation, which has done work similar to that of the Puglia Region: it understood, many years ago, that success doesn’t come by luck alone – it requires organization and structure within the tennis movement. Isidoro has been one of the key figures in this vision. The numbers that FITP can proudly showcase today are the result of work that I would define as very ‘Pugliese’ – built on relationships, passion, and people, not just economic aspects. Because, while global sports are driven by economics, they are fuelled above all by passion. Since this is a ‘zero edition,’ we are well aware that there is much work to be done, and a strong, united team effort will be essential. We are playing for the opportunity to make the Hopman Cup a long-term event. For us, this is just as important a challenge as the competition itself.”
Vito Leccese, Mayor of Bari, said: “I am happy and proud to host the Hopman Cup in Italy for the first time, with Bari as the chosen venue. This event is an incredible opportunity for our city and region, strengthening our sporting tradition and increasing Puglia’s international appeal.”
David Haggerty, ITF President, said: “We have great satisfaction in bringing this major event back to the international tennis scene. The Hopman Cup is a unique fixture on the calendar, cherished by both players and fans, who I am sure will fill the stands in Bari.”
Kristoff Puelinckx, Tennium CEO, said: “Special events deserve special locations. We immediately agreed that there was no better place than Puglia to host a unique tournament like the Hopman Cup, especially in the heart of summer. It will be more than just a tournament – it will be a full experience, on and off the court, with music, a fan zone, food areas, and lounge spaces.”
Isidoro Alvisi, FITP Vice President, said: “A world-class event dedicated to a great figure in tennis, Harry Hopman, a pioneer of coaching and the founder of academies. At this golden moment for Italian tennis, with 11 players ranked in the world’s top 100, this is an important recognition. And for Puglia, in particular, it is even more significant, as both Paolini and Cobolli achieved their first international results right here.”
Founded in 1989, the Hopman Cup spent its first 30 years in Perth, Australia, and was played in the opening week of the tennis season.
It was named after renowned Australian Davis Cup captain, Harry Hopman. In addition to a hugely successful playing career that saw him reach three Australian Open singles finals and win seven Grand Slam titles across men’s and mixed doubles, Hopman led the Australian team to a record 16 Davis Cup titles between 1939 and 1967. Hopman’s widow, Lucy, was a regular attendee at the Hopman Cup in Perth until her death at the age of 98 in 2018.
Croatia won the 2023 Hopman Cup when Donna Vekic and Borna Coric triumphed over Switzerland’s Celine Naef and Leandro Riedi in the Final at the Nice Lawn Tennis Club. The event was postponed last year due to its proximity to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
