A frustrating, rain-interrupted opening day at the Aegon Championships in London had one silver lining – Tuesday’s order of play is jam-packed with five courts in action and seven of the top eigth seeds on show.

The one Centre Court match completed on Monday saw an upset, with US-American Steve Johnson earning his first top 10 career win over the tournament’s number four Richard Gasquet 7-6, 6-2. Johnson fired nine aces, winning 75% of his first service points to advance after one hour and 30 minutes. He awaits the winner of the encounter between Guillermo Garcia-López and French qualifier Adrian Mannarino in the second round.

With less than two hours of non-consecutive play on all courts, all Monday 13th June ticket holders were entitled to a full refund, in accordance with the raincheck scheme terms and conditions. “It’s been a frustrating day for everyone today, our spectators more than anyone, but we are covered in the rare event of a day that allows less than two hours of play so at least we are able to refund tickets,” said Tournament Director, Stephen Farrow.

“It also means that Tuesday’s order of play is stunning. Centre Court features two Grand Slam title winners in Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka, one of the best first round matches I’ve ever seen in Milos Raonic against Milos Raonic, and a young British player in Kyle Edmund. Court One has two of our former champions in action (Marin Cilic and Grigor Dimitrov) and there are great matches everywhere you look. We just need a bit of help from the weather.”
