Cecchinato Continues Good Run In Italy

The top-seed of the €42,500 Internazionali Di Tennis Dell’Umbria opened their title bid on Wednesday in Todi. The tournament’s number one Andrej Martin had to fight hard, overcoming Frenchman Constant Martin 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. The 26-year-old from Slovakia capitalized on seven of his 14 break point chances to prevail in two hours and 25 minutes. Martin will next face Italian wild card Gianluigi Quinzi.

Second seed Marco Cecchinato continues his good run in Italy beating Mathias Bourgue 6-2, 6-3. The world number 130 captured his third ATP Challenger career title in Milan two weeks ago and was also in total control of his first round match on clay in Todi. Cecchinato lost his serve only once and broke his opponent four times to advance in one hour and 16 minutes. The 23-year-old from Sicily will next play Indian qualifier Ramkumar Ramanathan, who eased past Enrique López-Pérez 6-3, 6-4.

Third favourited Marco Trungelliti battled past Tomislav Brkic 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. The world number 150 from Argentina sent down six aces, winning 66% of his first service points to reach the second round after two hours and seven minutes. Trungelliti will next take on Daniil Medvedev.

Fourth seed Marton Fucsovics also found his way into the next round, rallying back against Cem Ilkel. The 24-yera-old from Hungary won 101 of the total 198 points played to secure a 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 victory in two hours and 33 minutes. Fucsovics will square off with Italian wild card Lorenzo Sonego.
