STUTTGART/STARNBERG, March 17, 2026
The organizers of the BOSS Open in Stuttgart have awarded main draw wildcards to German talent Justin Engel and Australia’s Nick Kyrgios for this year’s tournament, set to take place from June 6 to 14.
Engel, now 18, made headlines at last year’s edition with a sensational run to the quarterfinals, living up to his reputation as one of Germany’s brightest young prospects. On his way, the Nuremberg native defeated higher-ranked opponents such as James Duckworth and Alex Michelsen, impressing fans with his dynamic grass-court tennis. His performance made him the youngest Stuttgart quarterfinalist in history and the youngest to reach that stage at an ATP grass event since Boris Becker achieved the feat at Wimbledon Championships in 1985.
Engel’s breakthrough season also included a Challenger title in Hamburg and a qualification for the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah. He has since climbed into the world’s top 200 rankings.
“The success at the BOSS Open showed me that I’m on the right path,” Engel said. “The tournament is perfectly organized, and the German fans create an incredible atmosphere. Receiving another wildcard into the main draw means a lot to me.”
Joining him is Kyrgios, one of tennis’s most charismatic and unpredictable figures, who returns to Stuttgart as he continues his comeback. The Australian has previously delivered memorable moments at the venue, including a thrilling 2018 semifinal against Roger Federer, which the Swiss narrowly won in a third-set tiebreak.
“The Weissenhof is a fantastic venue with excellent grass courts,” Kyrgios said. “I’ve always enjoyed my time there—the fans and atmosphere are very special. I’m really looking forward to coming back.”
Tournament director Edwin Weindorfer highlighted both players as exciting additions to the field, praising Engel’s potential as a future star of German tennis and Kyrgios’s ability to captivate audiences.
They join an already strong lineup for the 2026 edition, including defending champion Taylor Fritz, fellow US-Americans Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul, Italy’s Matteo Berrettini, and Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff, promising another week of high-quality grass-court tennis in Stuttgart.
