Dellien Brothers Advance At Sao Leo Open

Top seed Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile was eliminated in the first round of the Sao Leo Open after losing to Murkel Dellien 6-4, 6-3 on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old Bolivian withstood four aces and broke Barrios Vera’s serve five times to prevail after one hour and 51 minutes.

Murkel’s older brother, Hugo Dellien, the second seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 clay-court event being held at the Sao Leopoldo Tenis Clube in Brazil this week, rallied past local player Eduardo Ribeiro 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the first match of the day. The encounter lasted two hours and four minutes.

The Brazilians who advanced in the singles draw were Felipe Meligeni, who benefited from the retirement of Uruguay’s Joaquin Aguilar Cardozo, leading 3-6, 6-0, 2-0, and Gustavo Heide, who defeated Pedro Boscardin 6-1, 6-3. Sao Paulo native Daniel Dutra Silva fought hard but was eliminated by Bolivia’s Juan Carlos Prado Angelo. 6-4, 7-6(6) after two hours and five minutes.
