SAO LEOPOLDO/STARNBERG, April 5, 2026
The Brazilian hopes at the 2026 Sao Leo Open came to an end on Saturday, as the semifinals were dominated by the tournament’s other South American contenders.
Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta secured his place in the final after defeating Brazilian surprise package Paulo Saraiva 6-3, 6-1 in the opening match of the day. The world No. 222 confirmed his status as the favorite and will now face Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien for the title.
“Very, very happy for another win, another victory,” Diaz Acosta said afterwards. “It has been a very good week, I really like the conditions here, so I’m very happy to be playing here and very pleased with the level I showed today. And of course, I’m really looking forward to playing the final tomorrow.”
Dellien, a tournament wild card and former world No. 68, currently ranked No. 160, advanced by overcoming Brazil’s Gustavo Heide 6-3, 7-5 in the second semifinal.
“Today was a very tough match,” he said. “I suffered in the last game — I think it was one of the toughest games I’ve had in many years. I’m happy to be in the final, happy to have won today and to have come through that difficult moment.”
The Bolivian now turns his attention to Sunday’s final of the ATP Challenger 75 event.
“And now that’s it: tomorrow is the final,” Dellien added. “Finals are there to be enjoyed — you can win them, and it doesn’t matter how you got there; you just have to try to do your best.”
And then there were two.
