CAMPINAS/STARNBERG, April 11, 2026
Gustavo Heide of Brazil and Peru’s top seed Gonzalo Bueno will compete in the final of the Copa Internacional de Tenis ATP Challenger 75 event in Campinas, the country’s longest-running tournament.
Bueno secured his spot in Sunday’s championship match after a hard-fought semifinal victory over Argentina’s Lautaro Midon. The world No. 187, currently at a career-high ranking, recovered from a slow start to win 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.

“Today was very difficult. We have played each other since we were 12 and it’s always tough. A few weeks ago he beat me in Paraguay. In the first set he was playing very well and it was hard to do anything, but I think the key was maintaining a good first-serve percentage, moving Midon from side to side and taking the chances he gave me. Now it’s time to rest, recover and think about the strategy for tomorrow,” Bueno said.
The second semifinal featured an all-Brazilian clash between close friends and long-time rivals Gustavo Heide and Pedro Boscardin. The high-quality encounter was decided by fine margins, with Heide prevailing 7-6(1), 6-2.
After a tightly contested opening set that went to a tie-break, Heide raised his level in the decisive moments before sealing victory with a strong second set performance.
“I already knew it would be tough, especially in a semifinal. Facing a friend is always very tense, both wanting to reach the final. I think I managed to step up in the tie-break and played better in the second set. I’m very happy. Last year was very difficult, I was out for seven months. I was close to the top 150 and had everything to make it a great year. At the end of 2025 I won a title and this year I’ve been building momentum step by step. I can only thank my team for supporting me through very tough weeks. Campinas is special, this is where I got my first Challenger win. Tomorrow my family will certainly be here supporting me,” said Heide.
Despite the defeat, Boscardin leaves Campinas with plenty of positives, having reached a new career-high ranking of around world No. 217. Heide, who started the week ranked No. 262, will also make a significant jump and move closer to his previous best of No. 142. Both players have secured spots in the Roland Garros qualifying draw—Boscardin through his ranking and Heide using a protected ranking.
Heide, a two-time Challenger champion, is now chasing his biggest result of the season and could become Brazil’s No. 2 player with a title in Campinas. Notably, he and Bueno have never faced each other on the professional tour.
Spaniards crowned doubles champions
Brazilian hopes fell short in the doubles final, where Marcelo Zormann and Argentina’s Mariano Kestelboim were defeated by Spain’s Nicolas Varona and Mario Diez. Despite taking the opening set 6-3, the South American duo lost momentum as the Spaniards responded with a dominant 6-1 second set before sealing the title in a match tie-break, 10-8.
“We won today, but the first set was very difficult. It could have gone their way. Last week we lost, today we won—that’s how the tour works. I congratulate Kestelboim and Zormann for their week and the tournament. It was one of the best Challengers I’ve ever played,” said Varona.
The champions earned $4,980 and 75 ATP Doubles Ranking points, while the runners-up took home $2,880 and 50 points.
