Australia’s James Duckworth and Italy’s Stefano Napolitano will contest the singles final at the Mexico City Open presented by Banco bxm after both players came through their semifinal matches in strong fashion at the ATP Challenger 125 event.

Top seed Duckworth, currently ranked No. 86 in the world, secured his place in the championship match with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Belgium’s Tibo Colson. It marks the first time the Australian has reached the final in Mexico City.

“It was a very tough match. Tibo had a great tournament and was a very difficult opponent to beat, so I’m very happy with the result,” Duckworth said. The Australian, who arrived in Mexico City following a runner-up finish in San Luis Potosi, is aiming to break into the Top 50 this season.

“I’m playing well at altitude, I like the conditions, and also the atmosphere and the vibe around here,” he added.

Napolitano, meanwhile, celebrated his 31st birthday in style by advancing to the final with a 6-3, 6-4 win over France’s Luka Pavlovic, the tournament’s No. 7 seed and last year’s finalist. The result also served as a form of redemption, after Pavlovic had defeated the Italian in the first round of the 2025 edition.

“It was a difficult match, but the important thing was to win and give myself the chance to fight for the title,” said Napolitano. “I really appreciate the Mexican crowd—they always make me feel at home.”

The fans at the Estadio Rafael “Pelón” Osuna added a special touch to the occasion, singing “Happy Birthday” to Napolitano after his victory.
