Santiago Gonzalez continues to make history at the Mexico City Open presented by Banco bxm, becoming the first player to win the doubles title in consecutive years. This time, the Mexican teamed up with Ryan Seggerman from the United States to defeat Ecuador’s Diego Hidalgo and US-American Patrik Trhac 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in a closely contested final on Sunday.

The Estadio Rafael “Pelón” Osuna at the Centro Deportivo Chapultepec once again witnessed a milestone moment for Gonzalez, who extended his winning streak at the ATP Challenger tournament to eight matches across two editions. The final also marked Seggerman’s third consecutive appearance in the title match at the event.

“I’m very happy to win the title again. It’s also the second time Ryan has won here,” Gonzalez said. “We made a great team on and off the court, and the Mexican fans are always very important—they give you that extra boost.”

At 43 years old, Gonzalez remains highly motivated to compete at the highest level. “It motivates me a lot to still be beating players in their 20s. It shows that I have the level not only in Challengers but also on the ATP Tour. I will try to win more titles this year and carry this confidence into the next tournaments. Hopefully, it will be a great season—and not my second-to-last or last. I still have more to give,” added the Veracruz native.

For Seggerman, lifting the trophy held special meaning after reaching three consecutive finals in Mexico City—winning in 2024 and 2026, and finishing runner-up in 2025, when he lost to Gonzalez, now his partner.

“It’s always special to come back here,” said the 26-year-old US-American. “For three years, this tournament has been marked on my calendar. The fans are incredible and bring so much energy. You want to stay here all week, and I’ve been lucky to do that three times. To win now with Santiago—and not lose to him in the final this time—makes it extra special.”

Both players will now head to Europe for the clay-court swing. Gonzalez is set to compete at the BMW Open in Munich alongside Italy’s Luciano Darderi, while Seggerman will team up with fellow US-American Ben Shelton.
