ZAGREB/STARNBERG, May 18, 2026

The 2026 Zagreb Open concluded on Sunday at Sports Park Salata after a demanding week heavily affected by rain. Despite difficult weather conditions throughout the ATP Challenger 75 tournament, sunny skies finally returned on finals day, allowing the event to finish successfully in front of an appreciative crowd.

Top seed Jan Choinski lived up to his billing by capturing the singles title with a 7-6(5), 7-6(2) victory over Hungary’s Zsombor Piros in the singles final lasting two hours.

The British player, who was born and raised in Germany, completed an impressive week in Zagreb after repeatedly fighting back from difficult situations throughout the tournament. Remarkably, Choinski had come from a set down in every match leading up to the final.

Before competing for the title, both finalists first had to finish their rain-interrupted semifinal matches earlier in the day. Choinski battled past compatriot Arthur Fery 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-2, while Piros overcame Denmark’s third seed Elmer Moller 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Despite concerns that fatigue could impact the final, both players produced tennis of a very high level in front of the spectators on Salata’s Centre Court.

“This was an excellent tournament. Everyone was very kind, the hotel was excellent. There were also quite a lot of spectators, even though there was a great deal of rain throughout the week. It was very challenging for us players, but somehow we managed to play all the matches and bring the tournament to an end in the best possible way,” Choinski said afterwards.

The 29-year-old Brit also praised the atmosphere following his title run.

“I think we both played an excellent final and I am really happy. I would recommend this tournament to everyone,” he added.

Thanks to his title-winning run in Zagreb, Choinski rises to a career-high ranking of world No. 104.

The Zagreb triumph marked his first ATP Challenger final of the 2026 season and the ninth Challenger final of his career overall. Choinski improved his impressive record in Challenger finals to eight titles from nine appearances. He earned €15,510 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points.

For Piros, the final represented another strong result in an already successful season. The Hungarian had won two Challenger titles in 2026 prior to Zagreb and now holds a 9-6 career record in Challenger finals.
