Radu Albot continued his fine run of form at his home tournament by reaching the semi-finals of the Moldova Open. The 36-year-old Chisinau native edged past Italian alternate Franco Agamenone 7-5, 7-6(2) at the National Tennis Center on Friday.
Albot, who received a wild card into the main draw of the ATP Challenger Tour 100 clay-court event, converted five of his 16 break-point chances and won 53 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in two hours and three minutes.
Next up for the world No. 479 will be Romanian qualifier Cezar Cretu. The 25-year-old from Iasi defeated Briton Liam Broady 6-3, 6-0 in one hour and 17 minutes.
In the bottom half of the draw, Genaro Alberto Olivieri knocked off No. 3 seed Luca Nardi of Italy 6-0, 3-6, 7-6(4). The world No. 226 from Argentina broke his rival’s serve seven times and saved two match points to prevail after two hours and 35 minutes.

Olivieri will next take on in-form Greek Stefanos Sakellaridis. The 21-year-old from Athens, who is currently sitting at a career-high ranking of world No. 197, defeated India’s Sumit Nagal 6-1, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 18 minutes.
