23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams today announced her return to professional tennis, with her comeback to the sport to take place this summer at the HSBC Championships in London.

Williams is the winner of 73 singles titles, including 23 Grand Slams. She has spent 319 weeks as the WTA World No. 1 and claimed 39 major titles in total. A four-time Olympic gold medallist, she is also the only player to complete a ‘Career Golden Slam’ in both singles and doubles.

The next phase of Williams’ legendary career will begin on the iconic grass-courts of The Queen’s Club, as a wild card entry into the doubles draw of the WTA 500 event which runs 8-14 June.

A small number of tickets are still available for the first four days of the event via the LTA website.

This landmark moment builds on last year’s successful return of tour-level women’s tennis to London for the first time in over 50 years. In 2025 62,000 spectators witnessed some of the best players in the world compete for the WTA title, one of the highest attendances at a standalone WTA event anywhere on tour. The event also pays the second highest prize money for a WTA 500 event anywhere in the world, with a 35% increase this year.

Serena Williams said: “Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter. Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I’m excited to be back competing on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.”

WTA Tournament Director Laura Robson said:Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes the world has ever seen, and we’re delighted that she will be making her return to tennis at the LTA’s HSBC Championships. Women’s tennis made a historic return to The Queen’s Club last year, and now we have an icon of the game stepping back on to court at this prestigious venue – it’s very exciting for the tournament and the fans.”
