BAD RAPPENAU, June 2, 2026

Whether it was the weather forecast or simply a desire to spend less time on court, players at the Neckarcup 2.0 seemed determined to finish their matches as quickly as possible on Tuesday. Only three of the eleven singles matches scheduled on the third day of the ATP Challenger Tour event in Bad Rappenau went the distance. Once again, the action highlighted just how small the margins are in professional tennis, where rankings often matter less than performance on the day.

The biggest statement came from German teenager Max Schoenhaus. Competing on a wild card, the 18-year-old upset fifth seed Hugo Dellien of Bolivia 6-3, 7-5. Dellien arrived in Bad Rappenau as World No. 144, while Schoenhaus is currently ranked No. 385.

“It was amazing today,” Schoenhaus said afterwards. The 18-year-old German arrived at the Neckarcup fresh from winning a title last week in Troisdorf.

“The conditions here are different from those in Troisdorf. I only arrived yesterday, so it took me a little time to adapt. Nevertheless, I am very happy with my performance.”

Making his Neckarcup debut, Schoenhaus has already become a fan of the tournament.

“The facility here is beautiful. The organization is excellent and I hope I will have the chance to play here many more times in the future.”

Another strong performance came from Henri Squire, who defeated lucky loser Marc Polmans 6-0, 7-5. Fellow German Tom Gentzsch, however, was unable to join him in the next round, falling 6-4, 6-4 to third seed Jan Choinski of Great Britain.

Spectators were also eager to watch top seed Marco Trungelliti in action. The Argentine faced Jordanian Abdullah Shelbayh in a closely contested match. While the rallies were often evenly balanced, Trungelliti proved more decisive in the crucial moments. One break of serve in each set was enough for the Argentine to secure a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

“I played very well today, just as I did here last year,” Trungelliti said. “I hope it continues like this.”

In the final match of the day, Diego Dedura emerged victorious in an all-German encounter, defeating qualifier Max Wiskandt 6-1, 6-4 to book his place in the next round.
