PROSTEJOV/STARNBERG, June 7, 2026
Top seed Sebastian Baez captured the title at the 33rd edition of the UniCredit Czech Open in Prostejov, defeating Alex Molcan 6-4, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final. The victory earned the Argentine 100 ATP Ranking points and moved him up to world No. 53.
Baez looked comfortable throughout the week and delivered another strong performance in the championship match of the ATP Challenger 100 clay-court tournament.
“I felt good in Prostejov from the very beginning,” said Baez, who earned €23,750 in prize money. “The centre court suited my game, and that showed in the final. I managed to make the most of my current form. This title means a lot to me, and I hope I can build on it over the coming weeks and months.”
The opening set was decided by a single break of serve in the fourth game. Baez then took control of the second set, racing into a 4-1 lead. Although Molcan managed to break back once, the Argentine quickly regained momentum and closed out the match in straight sets.
For Molcan, it was another disappointment in a Prostejov final, as he was unable to convert his second appearance in the championship match into a title.
“My final match didn’t go the way I wanted,” Molcan admitted. “I made too many mistakes and my opponent punished them. He showed why he is such a great player and demonstrated his quality throughout the tournament. It’s a pity I couldn’t finish it off, but reaching the final is still a good achievement. Maybe next year it will work out.”
