QUITO/STARNBERG, June 10, 2026
The ATP has released the entry list for the 2026 ATP Challenger Quito Copa Banco Guayaquil, which will take place from June 28 to July 5 at Club Rancho San Francisco in Quito, Ecuador. The Challenger 50 event will offer a total prize purse of $63,000 and 50 ATP ranking points to the champion.
Leading the field is Colombia’s Nicolas Mejia, currently ranked world No. 167 and projected to be the tournament’s top seed. Also among the headline names is fellow Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan, a former world No. 56 who continues his quest to climb back toward the Top 100.
Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas, who reached a career-high ranking of world No. 60 three years ago, is another major attraction in the field.
Several Davis Cup representatives are also expected to play key roles in the tournament, including Mexico’s Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez and Alex Hernandez, Bolivia’s Murkel Dellien, Chile’s Matias Soto, the Dominican Republic’s Nick Hardt, Brazil’s Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida, and Colombia’s Juan Sebastian Gomez.
At present, 21 players from nine different countries have secured direct acceptance into the singles main draw. Competitors from the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, and the Dominican Republic will be represented. The 32-player draw will be completed by six qualifiers, three wild cards, and up to two special exemptions.
One of the most intriguing stories heading into the tournament is the return of Daniel Elahi Galan. The 29-year-old from Bucaramanga enjoyed the best season of his career in 2023, reaching a career-high ranking of No. 56 in the world. Injuries and inconsistent results have since seen him fall to No. 347, but Quito presents an opportunity to begin his climb back up the rankings.
Galan has produced several memorable performances on tennis’ biggest stages. His best Grand Slam result came at Wimbledon in 2023, where he reached the fourth round before losing to Jannik Sinner. During that run, he defeated then-world No. 27 Yoshihito Nishioka.
The Colombian also reached the third round of Roland Garros in 2020, earning a notable victory over Cameron Norrie before falling to Novak Djokovic. In 2022, he advanced to the third round at both Wimbledon and the US Open, highlighted by a stunning victory over then-world No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas in New York.
