There was a lively atmosphere at the Mallorca Country Club on day two of the main draw at the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships, which delivered several notable results. Jordan’s Abdullah Shelbayh, a graduate of the Rafa Nadal Academy, produced one of the tournament’s biggest upsets by defeating Corentin Moutet. Jan-Lennard Struff also progressed with victory over Martin Landaluce, while Nick Kyrgios bowed out after a straight-sets defeat to Adam Walton.
The shock of the day came courtesy of Shelbayh. The Jordanian held firm against Moutet’s attempted comeback and capitalised on the Frenchman’s struggles on second serve to seal a straight-sets win. The Rafa Nadal Academy player showed composure in the key moments to secure one of the most significant victories of his ATP Tour career, winning 7–5, 6–4. Ethan Quinn, Fabian Marozsan and Miomir Kecmanovic also advanced, rounding off a fiercely contested day on the outer courts.
Another highlight was the clash between Martin Landaluce and Jan-Lennard Struff. The German dominated the opening set with an effective serve, but the Madrid-born youngster responded in the second to force a decider. Ultimately, Struff’s experience proved decisive as he edged a tight final set 6–1, 1–6, 7–5 to book a round-of-16 meeting with Nuno Borges.
The day concluded with Nick Kyrgios’s much-anticipated return to centre court. The Australian produced flashes of brilliance that delighted the crowd – particularly the now-famous “Kyrgios Boys” – but began to feel the effects of his physical issues as the match wore on. Walton remained composed and consistent to seal a 6–3, 6–4 victory, advancing to the round of 16 where he will meet Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

The first round concludes on Tuesday with two of the most highly anticipated matches of the draw. Play gets underway at 12:00 with Damir Dzumhur taking on Vit Kopriva. At 12:30, Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov begins his campaign against Australia’s Marc Polmans. Not before 15:00, 2022 champion Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece faces Peru’s Ignacio Buse.
