HAMBURG/STARNBERG, June 26, 2026
Combined men’s and women’s professional tennis is returning to Hamburg’s historic Rothenbaum Tennis Complex. Three years after the last combined edition of the Hamburg European Open (ATP 500 and WTA 250), the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup will once again see men and women competing side by side, reviving one of the tournament’s most distinctive traditions.
From 9 to 16 August, the clay-court event will feature an ITF World Tennis Tour W50 women’s tournament alongside an ATP Challenger 75 men’s event, bringing together established professionals, promising international talents and some of Germany’s most exciting young players. The tournament further strengthens Hamburg’s impressive tennis calendar, following the ATP 500 Bitpanda Hamburg Open in May and the WTA 250 MSC Hamburg Ladies Open in July.
“The Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup will make Rothenbaum the meeting point for the next generation of international tennis stars,” said Hamburg’s Senator for the Interior and Sport, Andy Grote. “The enthusiasm of the people of Hamburg for tennis and the combined format for men and women make this tournament something truly special.”
Qualifying begins on 9 August, with the ATP Challenger main draw getting underway on Monday and the ITF W50 main draw starting on Tuesday. Matches will be played at Der Club an der Alster, with selected matches taking place on the prestigious Centre Court at Rothenbaum Stadium, one of Germany’s most iconic tennis venues.
Valuable Opportunity for German Talent
The tournament will once again provide an important platform for Germany’s emerging players.
“Events such as the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup are an essential part of developing young tennis players in Germany,” said Veronika Rücker, Member of the Executive Board of the German Tennis Federation (DTB). “They allow players to compete at international level without extensive travel and gain valuable match experience. It is particularly pleasing that the tournament is held as a combined event, giving both women and men a shared stage. Platforms like this are crucial in helping young talents make the transition to professional tennis.”
Players from Hamburg and the neighbouring state of Schleswig-Holstein will also have the opportunity to compete on home soil in front of local fans while earning valuable world ranking points.
Free Admission and Community Engagement
In a strong signal to tennis fans, admission will be free throughout the entire tournament, making international professional tennis accessible to everyone.
Off the court, organisers have planned a variety of community activities, including a joint club forum organised by the Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein Tennis Associations, a Mini Cup for children in the U9, U8 and younger age groups, and a blind tennis coaching workshop designed to promote greater inclusion within the sport.
An Established Event with a New Home
The Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup has become a permanent fixture on Hamburg’s tennis calendar. Previously staged indoors on hard courts at the Hamburg Tennis Association’s facility in Hamburg-Horn, the tournament has consistently provided an important platform for both promising youngsters and experienced professionals.
Last year’s edition featured Olympic champion Belinda Bencic, who made her return to professional tennis in Hamburg following maternity leave. Germany’s Justin Engel also celebrated his first ATP Challenger title at the event, while Erika Andreeva lifted the women’s trophy.
The Hamburg Tennis Association thanked its partners, including Active City Hamburg, the German Tennis Federation, Regionalliga Nordost and host club Der Club an der Alster, for their support.
“We are delighted that this year’s Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup will be held at our club,” said Dr. Carsten Lütten, Chairman of Der Club an der Alster. “It gives our own players the chance to compete in front of a home crowd and earn valuable world ranking points on their own courts. Moments like these are always something very special for our club.”
With free admission, international competition and a strong commitment to developing future stars, the Hamburg Ladies & Gents Cup promises to be one of the highlights of the German summer tennis season.
