BERGAMO/STARNBERG, June 26, 2026

The Trofeo TNB-Azimut Bergamo ITF World Tennis Tour M15 clay-court event will crown an Italian champion after all four semi-final places were claimed by home players. Headlining the day were Giovanni Oradini, Italy’s most successful player in NCAA tennis history, and in-form Fausto Tabacco, whose remarkable winning streak continued with an impressive victory over top seed Matthew William Donald.

Oradini booked his place in the semi-finals with a commanding 7-5, 6-1 victory over Marcello Serafini. The 28-year-old from Rovereto, who represented Mississippi State University before turning professional in 2021, once rose as high as No. 5 in the NCAA singles rankings and No. 3 in doubles. During his collegiate career, he recorded victories over several future ATP Tour players, including Arthur Rinderknech, while sharing the Bulldogs team with Nuno Borges.

Although Oradini reached a career-high ATP Ranking of No. 352 shortly after turning professional, he is currently looking to climb back up the rankings after dropping to No. 598. With important ranking points from last season due to expire in the coming weeks, his run in Bergamo comes at the perfect time.

Against Serafini, Oradini made the most of his opponent’s physical fatigue after two demanding matches earlier in the week. While the opening set remained competitive, the second quickly swung in Oradini’s favour as he secured another convincing victory to return to the semi-finals in Bergamo for the first time.

Tabacco Extends Remarkable June

The tournament’s hottest player remains Fausto Tabacco. Continuing the outstanding form that has already brought him a title in Messina and a runner-up finish in Milan, the Sicilian produced one of his best performances of the month to defeat top seed Matthew William Donald 6-4, 6-0.

The victory served as sweet revenge after Donald had defeated him at the same venue twelve months earlier. This time, Tabacco’s superior physical condition and relentless consistency gradually wore down the Czech before he dominated the second set.

It marked Tabacco’s twelfth victory of June, extending what has been the finest stretch of his professional career.

Awaiting him in the semi-finals is Federico Arnaboldi, who enjoyed a far more straightforward afternoon. The Italian defeated local favourite Filiberto Fumagalli 6-0, 6-0, although the scoreline reflected the Bergamo player’s accumulated fatigue after playing ten matches in less than two weeks. Despite creating three break points in the opening game, Fumagalli struggled physically for the remainder of the contest.

Scomparin Continues His Career Revival

The other semi-final will feature Pietro Romeo Scomparin, who continued his impressive comeback with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Denis Constantin Spiridon.

The 25-year-old from Vicenza had considered moving to the United States to pursue college tennis before language requirements prevented the move from materialising. After stepping away from the professional circuit between 2023 and 2025, Scomparin returned to competition last season and has steadily rebuilt his ranking, breaking into the world’s top 1,000 in 2026.

His run in Bergamo marks only the second ITF Pro Circuit semi-final of his career, following a similar performance in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary, one year ago.

Experience Prevails

While several younger players impressed throughout the week, experience has ultimately prevailed. The average age of the four semi-finalists is 26, highlighting the value of maturity and consistency at this level of professional tennis.

Saturday’s action begins at 12:30 p.m. with Giovanni Oradini taking on Pietro Romeo Scomparin, followed by the highly anticipated clash between Federico Arnaboldi and the red-hot Fausto Tabacco. The doubles final will take place later in the afternoon, completing another exciting day at the Tennis Club Citta dei Mille as the tournament enters its decisive stages.
