Day 5 at Wimbledon featured a mix of heavyweight performances and notable surprises as the fourth-round line-ups continued to take shape.
Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic overcame a stern challenge from 25th seed Arthur Rinderknech, battling through in four sets to book his place in the last 16. Defending champion Jannik Sinner enjoyed a more comfortable afternoon, defeating Jenson Brooksby in straight sets on Court One.
In the women’s draw, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka maintained her title challenge with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Jelena Ostapenko to reach the fourth round.
There were also several eye-catching upsets. Qualifiers Roman Safiullin and Shintaro Mochizuki eliminated two of the game’s brightest young talents, Joao Fonseca and Rafael Jodar, respectively. Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff added another surprise by defeating eighth seed Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.
Former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka advanced with a straight-sets win over Daria Kasatkina, while Coco Gauff fought back to overcome qualifier Claire Liu in three sets. Belinda Bencic, Jessica Pegula and Iva Jovic also secured their places in the fourth round, completing another action-packed day at the All England Club.
