The second day of the Generali Open in Kitzbühel belonged to the winners, with Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff and Daniel Altmaier joining Yannick Hanfmann in the second round, while former champion Sebastian Baez came through a high-quality clash against Miomir Kecmanovic.

Struff produced one of the performances of the day on Center Court, fighting back from a set down to defeat Kazakhstan’s Aleksandr Shevchenko 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4. The 36-year-old, who arrived in Kitzbühel straight from the grass-court season, praised both his opponent and the challenge of adapting to the altitude.

“Aleks is a good friend and a tough opponent. We practice together quite often and he always competes with great intensity. It was a difficult match. I came here directly from the grass and the altitude makes the adjustment even more challenging. He played a great match,” Struff said.

Later in the evening, Altmaier completed the successful German trio by overcoming Belgium’s Raphael Collignon 6-3, 6-2. The world No. 58 looked composed throughout the encounter and was pleased with the level he produced on his tournament debut.

“I think I’m well prepared to play good tennis here. I felt confident on court and knew I could maintain a high level over a long period of time. I stayed calm. It doesn’t matter who I play here because I knew every match would be difficult, and that gave me a lot of confidence in myself,” Altmaier explained.

In the standout match of the day, Sebastian Baez emerged victorious from the meeting between two former Kitzbühel champions. The Argentine, who lifted the trophy in 2023, defeated Serbia’s Kecmanovic 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 after more than two hours of intense baseline rallies.

“The key was staying focused on every single point. With the altitude it can sometimes be difficult to control the ball, but today I managed that very well. I’m happy to be through to the next round,” Baez said after the win.

Wednesday’s schedule will see the tournament’s top seeds enter the competition, including defending champion Alexander Bublik. The Kazakh will close the day session on Center Court against Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta, while Valentin Vacherot opens proceedings against Frenchman Quentin Halys, who recently made headlines by defeating Bublik in Gstaad.
