The fifth edition of the Schwaben Open by Great2Stay promises another week of high-quality tennis when the ATP Challenger 50 tournament returns to the TC Augsburg from August 23 to 29. Held once again during the Bavarian summer holidays, the event offers a prize purse of €56,700 and features a strong mix of established Challenger competitors and some of the sport’s brightest young talents.
Leading the entry list is Belgium’s Gilles Arnaud Bailly, currently ranked World No. 227. The 20-year-old returns to Augsburg for a third appearance after an outstanding junior career that saw him reach two Grand Slam junior finals in 2022 and finish the season as the ITF Junior World Champion.
Germany will be well represented, with Max Rehberg, Max Schoenhaus, and Marvin Moeller among the top domestic contenders. Munich native Rehberg arrives in excellent form after reaching the semifinals of the Challenger tournament in Zug, while Schönhaus returns to the venue where he impressed last year before narrowly losing to eventual finalist Alexander Ritschard in a third-set tie-break. Möller, meanwhile, has climbed back towards his career-high ranking following a series of strong performances after overcoming injury setbacks.
Additional German prospects could receive wild cards, including 2025 French Open junior champion Niels McDonald and Jamie Mackenzie, the current junior World No. 2, who recently reached the ATP Challenger final in Bonn.
Among the international contenders are Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Andrej Nedic, who has already reached two Challenger semifinals and one final this season, and Croatia’s Mili Poljicak, the 2022 Wimbledon boys’ singles champion.
Fans in Augsburg will also welcome back several familiar faces from the TC Augsburg Tennis Bundesliga team. Czech Martin Krumich returns after helping the club secure promotion, while Croatian Davis Cup player Duje Ajdukovic comes back after recently earning his first singles victory for the club. Frenchman Thomas Faurel, another member of the Bundesliga squad, is set to make his tournament debut.
Since its inaugural edition in 2019, the Schwaben Open has attracted numerous players who have gone on to enjoy successful ATP careers, including Yannick Hanfmann, Daniel Altmaier, Oscar Otte, Maximilian Marterer, Henri Squire, Justin Engel, and defending champion Cedric-Marcel Stebe, who completed a remarkable comeback from injury by lifting last year’s trophy.
