Andrew Paulson and Tiago Pereira are the doubles champions at the Invest In Szczecin Open. The Czech-Portuguese duo left little doubt in Saturday’s final, defeating Inigo Cervantes and Denys Molchanov 6-2, 6-0 to lift the trophy in convincing fashion.

For Paulson, it was a second doubles title in Szczecin, three years after his first triumph at the tournament.

The two teams arrived at the final with very different stories. Cervantes and Molchanov entered the title match as the more established partnership. They played two tournaments together last season before joining forces permanently in May this year. The partnership quickly produced results, with the pair winning the title in Liberec and also recording strong performances at other Challenger events in Poland. They reached the semi-finals in Poznan before going one step further in Kozerki, where they finished runners-up.

Molchanov also returned to Szczecin with particularly fond memories. The Ukrainian was the defending doubles champion, having won last year’s title alongside David Pichler. The Ukrainian-Austrian combination defeated Ivan Liutarevich and Bruno Pujol Navarro in the final.

Paulson is also very familiar with success in Szczecin. The Czech won the doubles title here in 2023 alongside Vitaliy Sachko, beating Zdenek Kolar and Sergio Martos Gornes in the final. This time, he returned with a completely new partner.

Paulson and Pereira had never previously played on the same side of the net before arriving in Szczecin. Their lack of experience as a partnership, however, proved to be no obstacle.

Paulson has long been one of the most successful doubles players on the ATP Challenger Tour. Before this week’s tournament, he had already collected 17 Challenger doubles titles, including five this season alone. His most recent title came just one week earlier in Tulln.

Pereira has also enjoyed an outstanding season in doubles. The Portuguese won a Challenger title in Hersonissos alongside Michael Geerts before triumphing again in Montemar, where he partnered Szymon Kielan.

In Saturday’s final, the difference between the two teams was evident from the opening games. Paulson and Pereira quickly imposed their rhythm, made the most of their opportunities and gave their opponents little chance to settle into the match.

They wrapped up the opening set 6-2, and their dominance became even more pronounced in the second. After just two sets, Paulson and Pereira completed a commanding 6-2, 6-0 victory and could begin celebrating their title.

“For both of us, this is a very important moment. For Andrew, this title means breaking into the Top 100, while for me it is the biggest achievement of my career so far. It is even more special that we achieved it together, in such a great place and as a team that had never played together before. It is a really special feeling,” the newly crowned champions said after the match.

For Paulson, it marks his second triumph in Szczecin, although this time with a different partner. For Pereira, it provides another highlight in what has become one of the most successful doubles seasons of his career.
