The stage is set for an exciting week of world-class tennis following today’s unveiling of the Chengdu Open singles and doubles draws. The tournament gets under way tomorrow with qualifying action at the Sichuan International Tennis Centre.

Leading the 28-player field is top seed Valentin Vacherot, who returns to China following his sensational title-winning run at the 2025 Shanghai Masters. The Monegasque is joined in the top half of the draw by defending champion and third seed Alejandro Tabilo.

Second seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina anchors the bottom half as he makes his Chengdu debut. The Spaniard, who captured his maiden ATP Tour title in Mallorca this June, is joined by fourth seed Botic van de Zandschulp, who arrives fresh from reaching his second US Open quarter-final earlier this month.

With the top four seeds receiving first-round byes, the early action will focus on the remaining seeds and a series of intriguing opening-round contests.

Fifth seed Hubert Hurkacz will open against Aleksandr Shevchenko of Kazakhstan. The former World No. 6 enters the contest with a commanding record against Shevchenko, having won all four of their previous meetings.

Sixth seed Nuno Borges of Portugal will face Argentina’s Camilo Ugo Carabelli for the first time, while seventh seed Denis Shapovalov has been handed an intriguing opener against Tallon Griekspoor. The pair have split their two previous encounters, with Griekspoor winning in Geneva in 2024 before Shapovalov responded with a three-set victory in Munich earlier this season. The Canadian returns to Chengdu seven years after reaching the semi-finals on his previous appearance in 2019.

Eighth seed Sebastian Baez will begin his campaign against 2025 Houston champion Jenson Brooksby. This will be their third career meeting, with Baez having won both of their previous encounters in straight sets in Auckland and at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome earlier this season.

Local attention will centre on 21-year-old wild card Jerry Shang as the 2024 Chengdu Open champion takes on 38-year-old Adrian Mannarino in a contest between youth and experience. The pair’s only previous encounter came at the 2023 Miami Open, where the Frenchman recovered from a one-sided opening set to prevail 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Shang will be aiming to reverse that result as he returns to the scene of his historic maiden ATP Tour title.

Meanwhile, Juan Manuel Cerundolo added a memorable touch to the ceremony by drawing himself into a first-round meeting with another Chinese wild card, Yi Zhou. The Argentine, whose lone ATP Tour title came on the clay courts of Cordoba in 2021, will be looking to improve on last year’s first-round exit to Lorenzo Sonego. Zhou, meanwhile, will aim to extend his perfect opening-round record in Chengdu, having recorded memorable victories at the same stage in the past two years.

Completing the Chinese wild-card contingent, Jia Hu will meet Czech player Vit Kopriva in their first career encounter.

French Next Gen prospect Moise Kouame enjoyed some fortune in the draw after being paired with a qualifier. The 17-year-old, who enters the tournament through the Next Gen Accelerator programme, has enjoyed a breakthrough season highlighted by a run to the third round of Roland-Garros.

In the doubles draw, top seeds Theo Arribage and Albano Olivetti will open against Gonzalo Escobar and Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha. The French pair are in great form this season and have picked up five titles so far, including ATP 500 crowns in Dallas and Halle.

Two-time Chengdu Open champions Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul return as the second seeds and will begin their bid for a third title against Luke Johnson and Jan Zielinski. Champions here in 2023 and 2024, the French duo have added another two trophies to their collection this year with triumphs on the clay courts of Bucharest and Bastad.

Third seeds Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner, who captured their maiden ATP Tour title together in Munich this year, will face singles entrants Nuno Borges and Juan Manuel Cerundolo. Fourth seeds Robert Galloway and Andre Goransson will open against the all-French pairing of Adrian Mannarino and Alexandre Muller.
