Longtime rivals and WTA veterans Madison Brengle and Tatjana Maria will meet in the singles final on Sunday at the 8th annual Central Coast Tennis Classic, a $100,000 World Tennis Tour and USTA Pro Circuit women’s tournament taking place at the Templeton Tennis Ranch.

The 36-year-old Brengle, seeded No. 8 this week, staved off a late charge by 17-year-old Julieta Pareja in Friday’s semifinal match, gutting out a tough 6-1, 7-6 (1) win to make a return trip to the CCTC singles final. In 2022, Brengle beat then 18-year-old Robin Montgomery in three sets to win one of her 23 career professional titles. The match was scheduled to start at 5 p.m. local time, but because of temperatures that rose into the mid-90s, it was delayed an extra 30 minutes.

The top-seeded Maria had a nice practice and hit with 12-year-old daughter Charlotte as her semifinal did not take place. Her opponent, qualifier Ella McDonald from Great Britain, was forced to retire before the scheduled 5 p.m. match with a lingering shoulder injury. McDonald, who plays for LSU, had won five straight matches over five days in Templeton.

Maria holds a 5-1 career head-to-head advantage over Brengle, with Brengle’s only win coming at the Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open in 2008. “We’ve played a lot before, and doubles together,” said Brengle. “She’s lovely. I’m excited to play again in the final. It’s just so much fun being here.”

At 39, Germany’s Maria is the oldest player on the WTA Tour ranked in the top 100.

In the doubles final, the No. 3-seeded team of Savannah Broadus from Carrollton, Texas, and Allura Zamarripa, from St. Helena, Calif., beat Florida’s unseeded Whitney Osuigwe and Akasha Urhobo, 7-5, 6-2.

Broadus, who starred at Pepperdine, won her 13th career ITF doubles title. She won Junior Wimbledon in doubles in 2019. Zamarripa, like Broadus, is also 24 years old and played one year for the University of Texas, leading the Longhorns to the NCAA national team title in 2022. The win was Allura’s 12th career pro doubles title on the World Tennis Tour.
