The quarterfinals are set at the €42,500 Torneo Città di Como. The tournament’s top seed Gerald Melzer rallied from a set down to overcome Andrea Arnaboldi 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 on Thursday.
The world number 88 sent down five aces, saved three of the four break points he faced, converting one of his own to prevail in two hours and 35 minutes. Melzer will next take on Marco Cecchinato. The 23-year-old Italian ended the good run of Swedish teenager Mikael Ymer with a 6-3, 7-6 victory after one hour and 49 minutes.
Lucky loser Andrea Collarini emerged victorious from the all-Argentine-affair with fifth seed Marco Trungelliti, winning 6-2, 6-2. The lefty ranked world number 388 saved both break points he faced and capitalized on four of his own opportunities to advance in 68 minutes. Collarini, who was born in New York, will next face Adrian Ungur. The 31-year-old from Romania received a walkover against Filip Krajinovic, who was forced to withdraw with a right wrist injury.
