Daniil Medvedev claimed the his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning the eighth edition of the Trophée des Alpilles, held at the Tennis Club Saint Remy de Provence. In the pair’s first meeting, the 20-year-old Russian beat Joris de Loore from Belgium 6-3, 6-3 on Sunday morning.
Medvedev sent down five aces, saved the only break point he faced and converted three of his own to secure victory in 64 minutes.
Before his successful run on the hard courts of the €42,500 Challenger event, the world number 156 lifted four trophies on the ITF Pro Circuit, one of them this year in Switzerland. Four weeks ago, Medvedev lost the title match of the Tilia Slovenia Open in Portoroz to Florian Mayer.
In Saint Remy, the young gun earns €6,150 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points to reach a new career high on Monday, being ranked on 142nd position.
Skupskis Take Doubles Title
On Saturday, second seeds Ken and Neal Skupski clinched the doubles title. The British brothers defeated David O’Hare from Ireland and Joe Salisbury from Great Britain 6-7, 6-4 10-5. The encounter lasted one hour and 33 minutes. Ken and Neal won their third Challenger team title of the season, following their triumphs in Bergamo and Cherbourg.
