Haase To Face Satral For Rome Challenger Title

Jan Satral advanced to his second ATP Challenger final

ROME, October 1, 2016

Robin Haase and Jan Satral will compete in Sunday’s final of the €42,500 BFD Energy Challenger, held at the Due Ponti Sporting Club in Rome.

The top seed from the Netherlands fought past Tristan Lamasine of France, winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Haase, who lifted the trophy of the Sibiu Open last weekend, won 53 per cent of the total points played to celebrate his ninth consecutive match win after one hour and 49 minutes.

Satral ended the fabulous run of 18-year-old Swede Mikael Ymer, who appeared in his maiden semi-final at Challenger level. The world number 169 from the Czech Republic saved seven of the 10 break points he faced, converting five of his own to secure a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory in almost two and a half hours. Satral will play his second Challenger final after his triumph at the Marburg Open in July. Back then, he beat Marco Trungelliti in straight sets. Satral and Haase will meet for the first time.

Earlier the day, Federico Gaio and Stefano Napolitano captured the doubles title, winning 6-7, 6-2, 10-3 over the Croatian combination of Marin Draganja and Tomislav Draganja. The Italians closed the encounter in one hour and 27 minutes.
