Bagnis Wins Claro Open In Medellín

MEDELLIN, October 2, 2016

Second seed Facundo Bagnis is the champion of the $50,000 Claro Open in Medellín, the second largest city in Colombia. The world number 92 from Argentina defeated Caio Zampieri of Brazil in Saturday’s final, rallying from a set down 6-7, 7-5, 6-2.

Bagnis withstood seven aces, hitting three of his own and converted four of his 12 break point chances to seal victory in two hours and 15 minutes. The 26-year-old from Buenos Aires clinched his fourth ATP Challenger title of the season after he had lifted the trophies in Rio de Janeiro, Santiago as well as at his home town. He takes away $7,200 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points.

“I am happy to clinch another title. Thanks to all related persons, my team and all the people, who always make me go on forward,” Bagnis wrote on instagram.

On Friday, Colombians Alejandro Falla and Eduardo Struvay cruised past Andre Ghem of Brazil and Spaniard Juan Lizariturry 6-3, 6-2 to take the doubles crown. The encounter lasted only 50 minutes.
