LINZ, October 15, 2016
The final at the WTA Generali Ladies Linz is set with the tournament’s number two, Dominika Cibulkova, taking on Vikorija Golubic for the title on Sunday afternoon. The latter benefited from a walkover of Madison Keys, who withdrew from her semi-final match due to respiratory illness.
Cibulkova edged past Carla Suarez Navarro from Spain, winning 6-4, 6-3. The world number 10 from Slovakia landed 75 per cent of her first services, winning 60 per cent of the points. She broke serve seven times to secure victory in one hour and 28 minutes.
“It’s a good feeling to know that I have a chance at the Finals,” Cibulkova said. “That’s why I came here. I knew that I needed to reach the final or win the tournament to have something from it, and I just handled that so good.”
Cibukov and Golubic will meet for the first time. “Maybe physically it’s an advantage for her, but this match against Carla gave me special confidence,” Cibulkova said of her opponent’s day off. “I just want finish here with a good feeling and go for it, and just keep playing like today.”
