OBERHACHING, October 15, 2016

Mats Moraing and Robin Kern will go head to head in Sunday’s singles final at the second edition of the $10,000 Daikin Open, held at the TennisBase Oberhaching.

The second seeded German fought past the tournament’s number four Marek Jaloviec from the Czech Republic, winning 1-6, 6-1, 7-6. Moraing fired 11 aces and converted three of his 11 break point chances to prevail in one hour and 51 minutes.

“He managed to overrun me in the opening set and I really didn’t know what to do,” Moraing told afterwards. “I started to find my rhythm in the second set but winning a match in a third set tie-break might involve a bit of luck. Nonetheless, I am really happy to be in the final.”

Moraing fell in the semis in Oberhaching last year, losing to eventual champion Jeremy Jahn. He will next face seventh seed Robin Kern, who is the 2015 Daikin Open runner-up.

Kern eased past Louis Wessels, winning 6-3, 6-2. The world number 573 from Germany sent down 10 aces and won 58 of the total 93 points played to advance in only 55 minutes. Kern and Moraing will clash for the second time. Moraing won the only previous meeting between the two at the ITF Future in Kaarst in January this year in straight sets.

Later the day, the all-German-combination of Hannes Wagner and Louis Wessels defeated Swiss tandem Raphael Baltensperger and Marc-Andrea Huesler 6-1, 6-4 to claim the doubles title. The encounter lasted 51 minutes.

“It was a very positive week for us. We really enjoyed playing here at home at the TennisBase and we are happy to win the title,” Wagner told after the match.

“To crown this week here with the title is fantastic,” Wessels added. “We hope that we can play here next year again.” Both players will continue their tennis tour on the German indoor swing, competing at next week’s $10,000 ITF Future in Ismaning.
