Milos Raonic finished the year 2016 with a new career high World No. 3. 11 positions better than last season. An important mosaic stone in the team of the 25-year-old Canadian was former French Open champion Carlos Moya, who had only started working with Raonic in January. This very successful liaison has now ended, as the Wimbledon finalist informed via Instagram:

“Thank you to Carlos Moya for helping me tremendously this year, alongside my team, to get the best out of me. Under Carlos’ direction and tutelage I have played my best yet to date. We will no longer be continuing our coaching relationship but remain close friends. I wish him all the best.”

Raonic started the year by claiming his eighth ATP World Tour Title in Brisbane. He reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open with Moya at his side. Raonic finished runner-up at the ATP Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and at London’s Queen’s Club. In June, he advanced to this first Grand Slam title match at Wimbledon.

The Montenegro native won 52 matches this year (more than ever in his career) and 21 more than in the previous season. Raonic also works with Riccardo Piatti on a full-time basis. The North American had also brought on John McEnroe for a stretch during the grass-court and U.S. hard-court swings. Before working with Moya, Raonic had worked with Croatian Ivan Ljubcic for more than two years. Raonic will start his new season at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi at the end of December 2016.
