STARNBERG, December 8, 2016
Boris Becker will join Eurosport as an expert and co-commentator for its live tennis coverage in 2017. The six-time Grand Slam champion will analyse the Australian Open from January 16 to 29 exclusively for the sports channel’s German viewers. Becker will focus on the stories surrounding the national and international tennis stars including last year’s winner Angelique Kerber and accompany the main matches as a co-commentator.
“I want to show tennis fans in Germany the highlights and particularly the special flair and great atmosphere of this Grand Slam I won twice,” said Becker. “And I’m, of course, very excited to see whether our number one, Angelique Kerber, but also Novak Djokovic will be able to defend their titles in Melbourne.”
Susanne Aigner-Drews, managing director of Eurosport’s parent company Discovery Networks Deutschland, added: “Boris Becker is one of the biggest idols of German sports history and we are very proud to welcome such a sports legend in our expert team.”
In the United Kingdom, Becker is already known as a TV pundit: Since 2003, he has been analysing the Wimbledon tennis tournament for the BBC on a regular basis. World No. 2 Novak Djokovic confirmed Tuesday that he split from his coach Becker, saying that the decision was taken jointly.
