Brayden Schnur is the champion of the $25,000 ITF Tallahassee Futures presented by Visit Tallahassee held at the Florida State University Indoor Tennis Facility. The eighth seed from Canada battled past US-American qualifier JC Aragone, winning Sunday’s final 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
Schnur sent down seven aces and converted six of his 15 break point opportunities to seal victory in one hour and 56 minutes. The world number 543 lifted his third career title on the ITF Pro Circuit, his second of the season, following his triumph on home soil in Calgary. Schnur takes away $3,600 in prize money as well as 27 ATP Ranking points.
Dougaz And Iradukunda Fell In Doubles Final
On Saturday, US-Americans Robert Galloway and Nathaniel Lammons captured the doubles title, rallying 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 against Florida State men’s tennis team of Aziz Dougaz from Tunisia and Guy Orly Iradukunda of Burundi. The encounter lasted one hour and 22 minutes.

“Overall it’s been a great tournament for us,” Florida State head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “We’d liked to have won that match- we were so close, losing 10-8 in the third set tiebreaker. They played well and showed a lot of fight coming back winning the second set.
“All told, these guys won three doubles matches against really high-ranked players, (they) beat two of the four seeds in the tournament,” Hultquist said. “It think it’s a really strong performance for them heading into the season.”
Dougaz and Iradukunda defeated third seeds Tim Kopinski and Alex Lawson 0-6, 6-4, 10-2 on Friday in the semi-finals and knocked out the tournament’s top seeds Hans Hach Verdugo from Mexico and Kaichi Uchida of Japan 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday in the quarterfinals after defeating German tandem of Pirmin Haenle and Lukas Ollert 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 in the first round on Tuesday.
The ITF Futures in Tallahassee was the 40th men’s Pro Circuit event held on US-American soil this season. It was also the last one in 2016. The US-swing in 2017 will start in Los Angeles on January 2.
