Great news for all tennis fans in Munich: Andy Murray, 2013 Wimbledon champion and current world number 4 will play at this year’s BMW Open by FWU AG taking place from April 25 to May 3. The two time Grand Slam champion and Olympic gold medalist from London will play the clay court tournament in Munich for the very first time. “I’ve heard a lot about the BMW Open from my colleagues on the tour and I’ve already been a couple of times in the city of Munich. It is an awesome place. The tournament will celebrate its 100th birthday, which is really respectable. I’m looking forward to the tournament and the spectators,” told Murray through a video message on Thursday.
Tournament director Patrick Kühnen and organizer Michael Mronz fulfilled their goal to present a highly attractive players field. “I really want to thank our partners who made it possible that we will have players in the draw, who will fascinate as well as entertain the crowd. This year’s edition will be tennis pure, what we highly appreciate,” told Mronz.

Andy Murray will join Roberto Bautista-Agut, Gael Monfils, Fabio Fognini, David Goffin, Ivo Karlovic as well as Germans Philipp Kohlschreiber and Tommy Haas, who will be granted a wild card. Martin Klizan will also try to defend his title. Some of the young guns on the ATP World Tour will also come to Munich. 21-year-old Austrian Dominic Thiem and 21-year-old Czech Jiri Vesely will join 22-year-old Bernard Tomic on his return to Germany. The Australian was born in Stuttgart. The entry list’s cut off is at 57th position currently held by Victor Estrella Burgos from the Dominican Republic.
All of the players will battle for a total prize purse of € 494.310 as well as a brand new BMW i8.
