IRVING, February 25, 2017
The Irving Tennis Classic (ITC) event is returning to the Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club at Las Colinas from 13 to 19 March 2017 for its annual stop on the ATP Challenger Tour.
This sixth edition will host a 32 player singles draw and 16 team doubles draw. Players will compete to earn valuable Emirates ATP Ranking points and a total prize money of $150,000.
The current list of players is packed full of talent with an exciting mix of young up-coming players and many experienced players including six Top 50 and 26 other Top 100 ATP ranked players. Returning to the ITC is the 2016 ITC Champion, Marcel Granollers from Spain, ranked 38 in the world.
Also from Spain, accepting one of the four Wild Cards and making his first ITC appearance is Fernando Verdasco, with his powerful left-handed forehand, currently ranked number 37 in the world. The 33-year-old from Madrid will appear in his first ATP Challenger event since falling in the opening round in Prostejov in June 2012. Verdasco captured seven ATP World Tour titles but only one at Challenger level, lifting the trophy on home soil in Segovia 2007.
Other notable players include Denis Istomin who upset Novak Djokovic at the 2017 Australian Open, the heavy hitting Georgian, Nikoloz Basilashvili, ranked 50 and finished runner-up at the Memphis Open, the high energy play from Italian Paolo Lorenzi ranked 40 and holder of two ATP World Tour Singles and Doubles Titles, as well as world number 76 Thomaz Bellucci with four ATP World Tour Singles Titles and one Doubles Title.
Very talented 20-year-old Croatian, Borna Coric, ranked 59, will be joined by fellow ATP NextGen stars Karen Khachanov from Russia and Hyeon Chung from South Korea.
