The semi-finals at the €64,000 Internazionali di Tennis Trofeo Faip-Perrel in Bergamo are set. On Friday evening, Andrey Golubev knocked out Matteo Berrettini, the last Italian player standing in the singles draw, rallying 3-6, 7-6, 6-3.
The World No. 314 from Kazakhstan sent down seven aces, winning 78 per cent of his first service points to prevail in one hour and 46 minutes. Golubev, who celebrated his first singles match wins this season at the Pala Norda, will next take on Quentin Halys, the only seeded player left at the ATP Challenger event. The seventh favourite from France cruised past German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann 6-4, 6-3 in only 55 minutes.
Jerzy Janowicz overcame qualifier Egor Gerasimov of Belarus, winning 6-7, 6-3, 7-5. The 26-year-old from Poland, who entered the tournament with a wild card, withstood 22 aces, firing 17 of his own to secure victory in one hour and 57 minutes. Janowicz will next play Filip Krajinovic of Serbia, who fought past Frenchman Remi Boutiller 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 31 minutes.
