The €85,000 Wroclaw Open kicked off on Saturday with the opening round of the qualifying. Six local players headlined the action at AZS Hall but only one of them advanced.
Szymon Walkow eased past Sathi Reddy Chirala from India, winning 6-0 6-0. The World No. 1154 from Wroclaw broke serve six times to secure victory in only 53 minutes.
Walkow will next take on Vladyslav Manafov from the Ukraine and will be joined in the second round by his compatriots Karol Drzewiecki and Andriej Kapas, who had a first round bye.
Mathieu Top Seed Of The Main Draw
Paul-Henri Mathieu of France, ranked World No. 101, will be the tournament’s number one, opening his title bid against Polish teenager Kacper Zuk, who entered the maid draw with a wild card. Second seed Lukas Lacko from Slovakia will take on Germany’s Kevin Krawietz in the first round.
Third favourite Kenny de Schepper from France will open his Wroclaw campaign against Serbian Filip Krajinovic and the tournament’s fourth seed Quentin Halys, who is playing the semi-finals at the ATP Challenger in Bergamo, will take on local wild card Michal Dembek.
