Jerzy Janowicz is the champion of the €64,00 Internazionali di Tennis Trofeo Faip-Perrel in Bergamo. The wild card from Poland won Sunday’s final against seventh seeded Frenchman Quentin Halys 6-4, 6-4 in the pair’s first meeting.
Janowicz was rock solid at his own service games, winning 100 per cent of his first service points. The 26-year-old from Lodz fired 10 aces and converted two of his nine break point chances to secure victory in 68 minutes.
“This is just one more good step for me because I’m already thinking of being back in the Top 15. Now I’m going to fight next week in Wroclaw. I hope I’m going to stay healthy and be back as fast as possible,” Janowicz told.
“The organisation here is really good. I’d say this was one of the best tournament directors I’ve ever had. It was nice to be here and the crowd is always unbelievable in Italy!”
Janowicz captured his sixth ATP Challenger career title, his first since lifting the trophy in Genova last year. He takes away €9,200 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points.
Janowicz will next play on home soil at the €85,000 Wroclaw Open, facing a qualifier in the opening round. Halys will also compete at Hala Orbita, taking on lcoal wild card Michal Dembek.
