Tie Break Tens Press Release, March 2, 2017

The reigning Roland Garros champion, Garbine Muguruza has joined the line-up for Tie Break Tens in Madrid, the thrilling quick-fire tie-break tennis tournament which will take place at the Caja Majica on the evening of Thursday 4th May.

Muguruza will take on five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova and six other world-class players at Tie Break Tens Madrid. An eight-player men’s event will run alongside the women’s event, with the World No.5 Kei Nishikori, and home favourite Feliciano López already confirmed to appear. Both events will feature a knockout format, with a prize money pot of $500,000 on offer, split equally between the men’s and women’s winners. $100,000 of the total will go to charity.

“It’s going to be different and intense,” said Muguruza. “For three hours there will be 16 of us giving everything for every point, from start to finish. We are all going to be trying our utmost to win and that will make it very special for the fans. We will need to be ready from the first point, as if you lose, you are out.”

Tie Break Tens arrives in Madrid after successful editions in London and Vienna where home favourites Kyle Edmund and Dominic Thiem won the titles, beating Andy Murray in their respective finals.

The event will be broadcast live on Teledeporte TVE in Spain.

What the London and Vienna champions said about Tie Break Tens:

Kyle Edmund: “To win that amount of money in one night was amazing. For a young player like me it is brilliant because I was able to invest in my team, and in my career generally.”

Dominic Thiem: “Tie Break Tens has a great future. It’s a great format and a lot of fun. The final I had with Andy Murray was really tense, serious tennis and I would love to play it again.”
