The Hala Orbita was packed again on Thursday, as local favourites Jerzy Janowicz and Michal Przysiezny stepped into second round action at the €85,000 Wroclaw Open.

In front of 3,000 spectators, Janowicz lost to Austrian veteran Jürgen Melzer 5-7, 6-7. The 26-year-old from Lodz, who clinched his sixth ATP Challenger title in Bergamo last Sunday, was not efficient enough in the decisive moments. Melzer withstood 15 aces and broke serve three times to secure victory in one hour and 45 minutes.
The eighth favourite will take on third seeded Frenchman Kenny de Schepper, who defeated Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands 6-3, 6-4.
Przysiezny emerged victorious from a topsy-turvy encounter with number two seed Lukas Lacko of Slovakia, winning 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. The 33-year-old Wroclaw resident fired 24 aces to finish the encounter in one hour and 23 minutes.
Przysiezny will next play Mirza Basic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who benefited from the retirement of Igor Sijsling from the Netherlands, leading 6-1, 2-0.
ATP NextGen star and tournament’s number four Quentin Halys edged past Swiss qualifier Yann Marti, winning 6-3, 6-4 to face Petr Michnev from the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals.
