In the third of four USTA Pro Circuit events held at the USTA National Campus, unseeded German Dominik Koepfer captured the title of the $15,000 Orlando Professional Tennis Series. The 22-year-old rallied past US-American teenager and the tournament’s number three Tommy Paul 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in Sunday’s final.
Koepfer, who graduated from Tulane last year, earning two All-American honors (2015 and 2016) and finished his college career with 103 singles wins, capitalized on five of his 12 break point chances and won seven points more than his opponent to secure victory in one hour and 57 minutes.
The World No. 478 clinched his second ITF Futures career title, following his triumph in Harlingen in November last year. He takes away $2,160 in prize money as well as 27 ATP Ranking points.
US-Americans Take Doubles Title
On Friday, US-Americans Connor Smith and Rhyne Williams were crowned doubles champions in Florida.
The fourth seeds defeated Jaume Pla Malfeito of Spain and Ramkumar Ramanathan from India 6-4, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 26 minutes. Smith and Williams won their second doubles title together in Orlando after hoisting the trophies here two weeks ago.
