MUNICH, March 29, 2017

Boris Becker will be honoured for his lifetime achievement, receiving the Iphitos Award 2017 by the MTTC Iphitos e. V. as part of this year’s Player’s Night at the BMW Open by FWU on April 30.

Several personalities from the world of sport have received the award, such as the likes of Andy Murray, Philipp Kohlschreiber, Tommy Haas and Maria Riesch in recent times. This year’s choice came down to the three time Wimbledon champion.

“We are very happy to honour with Boris Becker, Germany’s greatest tennis player of all of time, this year. As a honorary member of the MTTC Iphitos, he has been closely linked to club for a long time,” said Peter Bosch, president of the MTTC Iphitos, a member of the leading tennis clubs in Germany, which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.

Becker is a former World No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. He captured 49 ATP singles titles and is a six-time Grand Slam singles champion; including, having been the youngest Wimbledon men’s champion when he was 17 in 1985. Moreover, the Leimen native won the Olympic gold medal in doubles alongside Michael Stich in Barcelona in 1992. Becker also coached Novak Djokovic for three years beginning in 2013.

Becker will receive the award in person. “The BMW Open by FWU are also a big social event in Munich, which will be highlighted with Boris’ appearance at the BMW Player’s Night,” tournament organizer Michael Mronz is pleased. The main draw of the € 540,307 ATP 250 event will kick off on May 1.
