Four qualifiers advanced to the main draw of the 2017 Millennium Open in Estoril on Sunday, headlined by Elias Ymer, who eased past top seed Ernesto Escobedo from the United States, winning 6-1, 6-4.
The 21-year-old from Sweden didn’t face a break point, converting three of his own to secure victory in one hour and 10 minutes. Ymer will take on Argentine Carlos Berlocq in the opening round.
The youngster will be joined by US-American Bjorn Fratangelo, who upset Russia’s NextGen star Andrey Rublev 7-5, 6-3, and will next face sixth seed Joao Sousa from Portugal.
With Joao Domingues another local favourite made it into the main draw. The 23-year-old from Porto beat fellow countryman Goncalo Oliveiro to play eighth seed Kyle Edmund from Great Britain.
Salvatore Caruso clinched the last spot. The 24-year-old Italian edged past Kenny de Schepper from France, winning 6-3, 7-6 in one hour and 39 minutes. Caruso starts his Estoril main draw campaign against Kevin Anderson from South Africa.
