There are just two days to go before the 2017 French Open gets under way. This year’s tournament will begin next Monday with the Qualifying tournament. Monday 22 May will see the men kick proceedings off at 10 am on the courts at Roland-Garros, with no fewer than 48 matches on the order of play!
128 players will be looking to earn one of 16 slots in the main draw. 13 French players are among what has traditionally been a talent-packed field: Kenny de Schepper, Tristan Lamasine, Paul-Henri Mathieu and Vincent Millot by direct acceptance, and Grégoire Barrère, Geoffrey Blancaneaux, Jonathan Eysseric, Maxime Hamou, Calvin Hemery, Maxime Janvier, Constant Lestienne, Corentin Moutet and Gleb Sakharov who were given wild cards.
The draw for the men’s Qualifiers will be held on Sunday 21 May at 6 pm at Roland-Garros.
The women will start a day later, on Tuesday 23 May at 10 am. 96 of them will be aiming by Friday 26 May to be the 12 who make it into the main draw of the women’s singles. Eight French players are taking part this year: Virginie Razzano by direct acceptance, and Audrey Albie, Manon Arcangioli, Sara Cakarevic, Yasmine Mansouri, Jessika Ponchet, Jade Suvrijn and Harmony Tan who were awarded wild cards. The draw for the women’s Qualifiers will take place on Monday 22 May at 4 pm.
