STOKE PARK, July 1, 2017

Aussie star Nick Kyrgios returned to The Boodles along with a host of international tennis talent to complete their final preparations ahead Wimbledon next week. On the day the Wimbledon draw was released, Kyrgios defeated Viktor Troicki of Serbia 6-7, 6-2, 10-8.

Earlier in the day, The Boodles debutant Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia kicked off the action on a sun-soaked Friday at Stoke Park with a 7-6, 7-5 win over Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff.

“It was really nice. It’s good preparation for Wimbledon, in front of a nice crowd and good practice matches. Makes it more fun. The grass feels good, very good preparation,” told Struff, who played several matches this week at Stoke Park.

Roberto Bautista Agut from Spain made short work of Frenchman Benoit Paire in an entertaining match before reigning Wimbledon Junior Champion, Denis Shapovalov, took to the court to give spectators a glimpse at the future of tennis. The 18-year-old Canadian beat Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-3, 6-4.

“It feels incredible. I played great tennis today and it’s just amazing to be here at The Boodles. The hospitality is great, the event is just unbelievable and I’m very happy to be here,” Shapovalov said.

On returning to Wimbledon he said: “I think it’s gonna be very fun for me, first main draw of a major for me, so yeah. A little bit nervous, but you know, I’ve been there, I’ve lifted the trophy, so it’s going to be amazing to be back.

“Being defending junior champion gives me confidence or comfort. I’ve played on these courts before, I was very happy with them last year so I think it’ll help me this year playing against Jerzy [Janowicz.]”
