Jürgen Melzer, who was granted a wild card in May into the main draw of the Generali Open, announced Tuesday his withdrawal from the ATP 250 event, held in Kitzbühel from 29 July to 5 August.

“After my injury, I am not as fit as I would like to be in order to play at my home tournament,” Melzer stated.

Melzer’s wild card will now be awarded to Sebastian Ofner, who had previously been given an invitation to compete in the tournament’s qualifying.

“I can totally understand Jürgen’s decision,” tournament director Alexander Antonitsch said. “We wish him all the best and hope to he will be able to return to the courts as soon as possible.”
