KASSEL, July 23, 2017
Jurgen Zopp is the champion of the Wilhelmshöhe Open in Kassel. The 29-year-old from Estonia eased past German Jan Choinski 6-3, 6-2 in Sunday’s final of the $25,000 ITF Pro Circuit event between two unseeded players.
Zopp sent down four aces and broke serve six time to seal victory in 62 minutes. The former World No. 71, who has dropped to 480th position in recent years, clinched his 12th ITF Futures title, his first since 2014.
“He really surprised me with his game today. His shots were more than powerful,” Choinski had to admit.
“It is a wonderful feeling to win a tournament again. I cannot really remember when this happened the last time,” Zopp was pleased afterwards and enjoyed a glass of beer after his victory.
Zopp earns $3,600 in prize money as well as 25 ATP ranking points.
